My Myers-Briggs Personality Results, are they accurate?

Let's talk about personality tests. Every day, I find out what Harry Potter character/type of cheese/etc that my friends are from Facebook, but is that really telling me about their personalities? Probably not.

Recently, while on a very long road trip, one of my friends told me about the 16 Personalities test and I figured it would be a good way to pass the time. The test takes about 12 minutes but I have never read a personality description more accurate in my entire life.

You probably think your personality type doesn't matter. You'll probably never introduce yourself as your name and your Myers-Briggs acronym. But knowing your personality is important as it will help you understand yourself.

You are probably wondering what the different letters mean. By taking the personality test, you are determined to be Introverted (I) or Extroverted (E), Intuitive (N) or Sensing (S), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P). This creates your acronym. As you can tell by the title, I'm an ESFJ. But what does that really say about my personality?

Each acronym is given a title. ESFJs are known as the "consul". Seriously though, the first sentence of the description is "people who share the ESFJ personality type are, for lack of a better word, popular". Just seeing that sentence made me cringe. I have never thought of myself like that. I was always the band geek, engineer, that never really had many friends. How could I seriously be compared to the high school quarterbacks and cheerleaders of the world?

Curious as to how I magically achieved this personality, this quote on the first page (of a 9-page personality report) really hit home for me.
There it is: I am social. I mean, I like connecting and interacting with others. That is one of the reasons why I blog. As much as I didn't want to believe it, the rest of the report was scarily accurate.

My pros consist of strong practical skills, a strong sense of duty, loyal, sensitive, warm, and good at connecting with others, all of which make sense. The cons include being worried about social status, inflexible, vulnerable to criticism, reluctant to innovate or improvise. needy, and too selfless.

I made some words bold above (if you didn't notice). These words are traits that I know that I possess, good and bad. Seeing it written out in the report definitely has put it into perspective that I'm not crazy and that these are some things that are natural to me. I can now embrace my strengths and consciously work on my weaknesses.

I won't bore you with explaining my whole report, because you can read it for yourself. I just find it crazy that answering a few questions about me can result in such a detailed (and accurate) description of my love life, friendships, work ethic, and more. It also tells you what celebrities share your personality... I'm proud to say that I share the same personality as Tyra Banks.

Finding friends who share your personality type is probably the best thing in the world. I've never felt like someone has understood me more. One of my new friends (who is also an ESFJ) found a post concluding if you need a hug, based on your personality type. Again, pretty darn accurate. I will always give hugs.

Taking this test is 100% free and I was not paid in any way to give my testimony. I definitely encourage you to take it, even as something to just keep in the back of your brain.

If you've ever taken this personality test, I'd love to hear your results in the comments below. Do you agree or disagree with them?

  2. Okay, so I am OBSESSED with personality tests! LOL. Of course I know my own (ENFP), but I've spent tons of time (possibly more than I should?) learning more about each individual type, and trying to spot each one in various environments...I work at 3 different places so I have plenty of people to "study", and even within my own extended family, I've noticed all different types too! It's so fun!
