Blogger Question & Answer

A while ago, I was challenged to do a "Blogger Q&A" by Jenn from BudgetGirLife.

I know I've been in and out of the blogging game, but this post challenged me to think about why I do what I do, and I'd love to share with you.

Why did you start a blog?
Oh Miss Engineer didn't start out as Oh Miss Engineer. About two years ago, I started my blog as "Victoria Plans" in hopes to inspire people with my organization and planning tips.

While I still use my planner, my blog has become more of my lifestyle outlet, where I can blog about anything relevant to my life. If I can connect to one other person out there, then I have done my job. Even if no one reads, blogging has become an outlet for me to get away from my 9 to 5 job and all the stress that comes with it.

Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
My writing inspiration comes from things in my life: my job, my friends, my family, my experiences. As a lifestyle blogger, I can write about all of it, in hopes that you, my reader, will be able to relate (or not, it's okay.)

What words do you have for those who are scared to start their blog?
If you are going to let your fear of starting a blog prevent you from starting, that is your own problem. Honestly, I don't expect for anyone to read my blog, so the fact that you are reading it has proven me wrong. This is the twenty-first century. Everything is online. Someone in the world is going to be able to relate to you, no matter what you post. You just have to know where to look for those people.

What are the ups and downs of having your own blog?
Having my own blog has more upsides than I can fathom. While I can't say the the internet is a 100% "safe space", it does give me a platform to voice my opinions and I would hope that the people that follow me would have similar beliefs, even if it only one one topic.

I love having my own brand. I own my brand. Being called "Oh Miss Engineer" in public is probably the most flattering compliment because that person believes in you enough to know your blog.

What other interests do you have besides your blog?
I feel like everyone who reads my blog automatically knows what my other interests are. I'm definitely an open book. I am a full-time engineer. I also do direct sales (Mary Kay) as a side gig. I invest a lot of my free time into my church's high school youth group. Other than that, I love working out (running, lifting, you name it. I'm no iron man, but I work out so I can eat more), and reading post-apocalyptic young adult fiction.

Where do you hope your blog will take you into the future?
Oh Miss Engineer is actually coming up on it's one year birthday this spring, which I'm super excited about. In the near future, I really want to start focusing on my YouTube channel, giving you more of a glimpse into my life.

Because I just moved to a new city, I have so much to explore. I am so thankful that I connected with some local bloggers to help me make the transition more natural. Eventually, I would love to start blogging about my adventures, in and around Ohio, plus the occasional vacation that I do take (NOLA, I'm coming for you).

     Who are you inspired by?
I definitely have found myself some inspiration in the blogger community. Off of the top of my head, The Confused Millennial and Gen Y Girl are a couple of the girls whose blogs and Instagrams helped me realize what my blogging niche is. David from One Millennial's Guide has become one of my real life friends who I can vent to about work or blogging or whatever, for sure.

So yeah, I hope that this blog post has given you a little peek into why I write my blog.

If you feel so inclined, I've provided the questions for you, so that you can paste them to your own blog (without my answers, of course). I'd love to hear your story too. Also, tag some of your blogger friends, and lets get this train rolling.
