Classic Banana Bread Recipe That You Need to Try

I've recently noticed that I hoard food in my pantry. I have so many staples, but never do anything with them. A week ago, I bought a ton of bananas because they were super cheap, but didn't want them to go to waste. I could have added them to my frozen banana collection for the smoothies I never make OR I could try something new: banana bread.

In the baking world, Pinterest is your best friend. I looked up so many unique banana bread recipes (banana nut, Nutella banana, double chocolate chip banana) and ultimately on a basic banana bread because I already had everything and nothing is wrong with simple.

The recipe I followed was from here, but I'll sum it up below.

Ingredients:

2-3 ripe bananas
1/3 cup melted butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
A pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the bread pan with butter or oil (I used butter-flavored cooking spray). Be sure to get the sides of the pan too.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. The less clumpy the better.
  4. Add in the melted butter and stir.
  5. Mix in salt and baking soda and sugar.
  6. Mix in egg and vanilla extract.
  7. Lastly, mix in flour, adding a little at a time, and making sure to get everything wet with "banana mush". Mix a little more, just to be sure.
  8. Pour the mixture in the bread pan and place it in the center of the oven for 50 minutes.
  9. When you think it's done, insert a toothpick into the center of the loaf, if it comes off clean, then it's done for real.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool completely (pan should be touchable). To remove from the pan, simply flip the pan over.
  11. Slice and serve.
  12. To store, wrap in shrink wrap and place on the shelf. Bread will last about 1 week.
