Getting My Fitness On with My 5 Favorite Things



When you love something a lot, share it with the world, right? I've recently been focusing on my fitness and as I try more programs and meal replacements, I start to realize what I like and don't like. But as I work on myself, the things that I prefer will always be with me.

Here is a small list of my current favorite things related to fitness, from apps to fitness clothing, to my fitness planner.

Please note that everything in this post is my personal opinion, so if you are going to argue that I'm wrong, please go somewhere else. Also, before you engage in physical activity, you should be cleared by a doctor. I am not a doctor or a licensed personal trainer.

Sweat with Kayla

Recently, I have been working out a lot. I started by going to the gym in November, but of course, I didn't know how to work any of the machines. Then I started personal training, which I enjoy doing. In February I joined in on a program called Sweat with Kayla. It's kind of the best thing ever.

Currently, I'm on week 5 out of the 12-week program. Each week, I do 3 resistance workouts, 3-4 LISS (low impact steady state) workouts and then 2 cool downs. I still go to my personal trainer once a week, but this is awesome because it doesn't require a whole bunch of equipment, and the workouts are only 28 minutes long.

I highly recommend this program for those girls looking to tone up. I can do these workouts in my small apartment or at the gym. I can't wait to see the results at the end of the program (I might even go for a second round.)

There are a couple downsides, but they don't deter me from the program at all. The first is that it's all self accountability. I don't have to work out per the schedule if I don't want to. But if I don't, I obviously won't see the results. I reorganize the "schedule" to fit my life (I like taking my rest days on Wednesdays, not Sundays). So yeah, there is that. Also, it's $19 a month if you want to use the app. I don't mind that though, but for some people, like my sister, it's a turnoff.

Quest Nutrition

Because of my fitness kick, I realized that I do not eat enough protein. I don't eat a lot of meat as it is, so I started searching for the perfect protein bar. I've tried multiple powders, meal bars, and finally think I found one that I like.

A coworker suggested Quest Nutrition and so I had to try. I checked out Amazon (because that is one of the best things ever) and I found a variety pack that included Cookies and Cream, Cookie Dough, and S'mores flavors. Sold. I love anything Cookies and Cream. They also have protein powder that I'll probably invest in once I'm done with the brand that I currently have (I refuse to let something I spent money on go to waste).

Surprisingly, the Cookies and Cream was not my favorite flavor from the box, the Cookie Dough was. It legitimately tastes like raw cookie dough, but without the chance of contracting salmonella. I will enjoy all the flavors though. Stay tuned, I might have a new favorite next month.

The Savvy Coconut

I went to a planner girl meetup in Columbus OH a few weeks ago and received a headband from The Savvy Coconut in my goodie bag. Seriously the best fitness-y headband ever. They are wide and actually manage to stay on my head. So, of course, I bought 7 more. 

I love the selection that she has on her Etsy shop. Now if only she had a pattern that looks like pigs, that would be perfect for my upcoming 10K at the end of the month. (For those wondering, it's the Flying Pig in Cincinnati.) But it's ok, I'll probably wear the "Monarch" pattern one.

Fabletics

Last year, in attempt to start working out more, I bought myself my first outfit from Fabletics. (Click the link if you are interested in joining Fabletics. Yes, the link is a personal referral link and will give me credit.)

A couple notes on this company:

1) The leggings are amazing. They have three lengths, crop, capri, and full length. I have black crops and two different patterned capris and they are seriously my favorite things to wear ever.

2) Their customer service is awesome too. In my most recent purchase... the outfit shown (right), the dye from the leggings started to bleed and turn blue in areas. They are exchanging for free and promised that this wouldn't happen again. (Hopefully that is true.)

3) The tops are super cute. Some of them can work for going to the gym or going out. I know I've definitely worn some of my backless workout shirts to the bars.

The company picks new outfits for you on the 1st of the month, and you have until the 5th to make a purchase (or skip the month) or they will charge you and give your account a $49 credit. I only treat myself to a new outfit every so often (I just made my third purchase over the course of about a year) but I definitely love looking at the outfits every month.

Apple Watch

I use to be a huge advocate for Fitbit, but I was at the point where they had started to wear and break and I was tired of annoying customer service. I started off with a Fitbit Flex, lost that one, got another Flex, upgraded to the Charge, and then decided that I wanted to join "team Apple Watch".

I was super picky when it came to the colors... I wouldn't settle for anything less than the "gold colored" face with the "antique white" band. I think it's chic and goes with pretty much everything I wear.

Something great about the Apple Watch is the Activity app. Every day, I strive to fill my three circles: move, exercise, and stand. Since I got my watch, I definitely have been more active just because I am trying to fill the circles. Even on rest days, I make sure to go for a 30 minute walk.

The only problem that I have with the Apple Watch is that the battery will only last me a day (and some change). It needs to be charged every night.
